SOWING: Plant in a sunny location with well drained soil.  Plant seed directly outdoors in early spring. Cultivate soil, mix seeds with a cup of sand and broadcast lightly over planting area. Lightly rake into soil or cover with light soil to a depth of 1/8 inch. Can be sown in Fall in mild winter areas. Soak seeds overnight before planting.


THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When seedlings are 2 to 3 inches high, thin to 10 to 12 inches apart. Replant thinned plants.

GERMINATION: 15-75 days, depending upon soil and weather conditions.

GROWING TIPS: For earliest bloom, start in a sunny window 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting outdoors. May be direct-seeded outside.  Can not tolerate poorly drained, clay based soil.  Keep plants moderately moist.
Cut the flower stalks after the first bloom to encourage formation of a second spike.

Annual (One year plant ). Adopted as the State Flower Of Texas. Sweet pea-type blooms are densely arranged on a spike with a characteristic ice-white tip. A hardy annual native to Texas. Prefers full sun on a sloped area in light to gravelly, well-drained soil. Great in hanging baskets, along roadsides, front of flower beds, hillsides and meadows.
