SOWING: Seeds can be started indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last spring frost. Or direct-sow seeds outside after all danger of frost has passed to a depth of 1/8 inch, well pressed as darkness aids in germination. Tolerates a variety of soil types.

THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When seedlings are 2 to 3 inches high, thin to 6 to 12 inches apart. Replant thinned plants.

GERMINATION: 7-25 days, depending upon soil and weather conditions.

SUGGESTIONS: For earliest bloom, start in a sunny window 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting outdoors. May be direct-seeded outside. Keep plants moderately moist. Thrives in ordinary garden soil. Sow two to three times at two week intervals to have flowers through summer. They are especially attractive when planted with  red poppies and snapdragons, or mixed with daylilies in a border. Perform best when they are slightly crowded.
