SOWING:  For earlier blooms start indoors 3-4 weeks before the last spring frost. Or sow directly outdoors , in full sun ,after all danger of frost has passed.  Cover with 1/8 to ¼ inch of fine soil.  Plant  in sandy, well-drained soil where plant will receive   little amount of water.

GERMINATION: 10-14 days,  depending upon soil and weather conditions.

THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When seedlings are 2-3 inches high, thin/transplant to 12-24 inches  apart.  Replant thinned plants.

SUGGESTIONS:  Keep soil moist  during germination. Do not fertilize. Enriched soil tends to  promote more foliage than flowers.

Annual - ( One season plant ). Single, beautiful bright 2-3 inch flowers in orange, red, and golden yellow. Foliage is blue-green. Great for the back of flower gardens, containers, and massing. The flower, leaves and seed pods are edible. Chop leaves to add to salad and use flowers stuffed or minced and added to butters. Blooms all summer. Thrives in poor soil. Needs no fertilizer and very little water. Easy to grow.
