SOWING: Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost. Or plant outdoors in well-drained soil in early spring, after all danger of frost,  when soil is  65-68F. Cover seeds with 1/8 inch of soil.

GERMINATION: 7-21 days, depending upon soil and weather conditions.

THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: Transplant
when young seedlings are about 2 inches high and after all danger of frost has passed. Space 6-12 inches apart.


SUGGESTIONS: Keep soil moderately moist during germination and when plant matures.  Do not plant with other wildflowers. It has a tendency to crowd out other wildflowers.

Annual (One year plant). A winter annual native to Europe, but used throughout North America. Has deep red to scarlet upright flowers. The crimson flowers are congested and protrude from an elongated stalk. Used for erosion control, roadsides, meadows, and vacant lots, and looks great in the flower bed. Can grow in almost any soil type.
