SOWING: Plant in a sunny location with well drained soil. Plant seed directly outdoors in early spring. Cultivate soil, mix seeds with a cup of sand and broadcast lightly over planting area. Can be sown in fall in mild winter areas

THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When seedlings are 2 to 3 inches high, thin to 8 to 12 inches apart. Replant thinned plants.

GERMINATION: 10-30 days, depending upon soil and weather conditions.

GROWING TIPS: Keep soil moderately moist during germination. Once plants are well established, water only as needed. For cut flowers, cut stem just before buds open and sear stem end in flame immediately. For prolonged color sow successive plantings and remove old flower bases. This plant may re-sow itself.

Annual (One season plant). A bright 3-4 inch flower in shades of white, pink, and red. A cheerful color to any area when planted heavily. The flowers protrude individually on erect hairy stems. You will want to have this favorite for your Spring garden. Plant in meadows, roadsides, flower gardens, and mixtures. Use as a cut flower, and easy to grow from seed. Does not need very much attention once established.
