SOWING: Seeds can be started indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last spring frost. Or direct-sow seeds outside after all danger of frost has passed. Barely cover seeds with fine soil. Seeds can be sown in July for plants the following year.

THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When seedlings are 2 to 3 inches high, thin to 12-18 inches apart. Replant thinned plants.

GERMINATION: 21-30 days, depending upon soil and weather conditions.

GROWING TIPS: For earliest bloom, start in a sunny window 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting outdoors. Keep plants moderately moist. Pre-chill seeds in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 weeks before sowing. Leave seed pods on for reseeding or remove to prolong blooming period.

The foliage is deep-green and compact. Prefers well-drained sandy soil and moderate water. Used in front of flower gardens, rock gardens, or containers. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.
