SOW seeds as early in spring as ground can be worked. For a continuous supply sow every 2-3 weeks. Allow plenty of time for last sowing to mature before frost. Cover seeds with 1/2 to 1 inch of fine soil. Average soil will grow beets. A rich, sandy loam produces the best beets. The soil should be free of large stones and clumps.
THIN plants to stand 3-4 inches apart.
HARVEST when beets are 1-1/2 inches in diameter.
SUGGESTIONS: Thinnings make delicious greens. Beets taste best when grown quickly and steadily. Keep soil evenly moist to promote fast growth and to avoid woodiness. When sowing beets, mix with a few fast growing radish seeds to mark the rows. Optimum germination temperature is 45-75 degrees Fahrenheit.
