SOWING: For early crop sow seed directly outdoors in early spring. For fall and winter crops sow seed in August.  Sow 2-3 seeds together every 3 inches. Planting depth 1/2 inch.  Keep soil moderately moist during germination.

THINNING AND SPACING: When seedlings are 1-1/2 inches tall, thin to 1 plant every 3 inches. As plants grow crowded, thin to 18 to 24 inches apart in rows 3 feet apart or plant in blocks spacing plants 18 inches apart in all directions.

SUGGESTIONS:  Collards are grown like cabbage. Sow seeds sparingly to avoid crowding and spindly growth of young seedlings. Grows best in moderately rich and moist garden soil.  Thinnings are delicious to eat. Harvest outer leaves all season.
