SOWING: Leek is hardy and can be planted as soon as the soil can be worked. Can be direct seeded, 3 seeds every 8 inches in rows 24 inches apart, as early as the soil can be worked or grown indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting outdoors. Cover seed lightly with about 1/2 inch of fine soil, and firm soil gently.
GERMINATION: 14 to 18 days, depending upon soil and weather conditions.
HARVEST: Pull when the base is 1 inch in circumference. Plants can be blanched by mounding soil around the stems as they grow.
THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When seedlings are 3 to 4 inches transplant to 8 inches apart.
SUGGESTIONS: Can survive frost generally to the low twenties.
